Kenya Tree Farms Ltd
Bamboo
The future timber, paper, fiber and forest!
Kenya Tree Farms Ltd is a company registered in Kenya with the mandate to plant up to 20,000 acres of land with various types of trees.
Kenya has a forest cover “Problem”. From various media reports, Kenya has a current forest cover of 2% of the land mass. The globally accepted minimum forest cover for any country is 10% of the land mass. From media reports, to move this country from 2% forest cover to 10% forest cover, the country needs to plant at least fifteen million acres of trees. It has been said that Kenya’s current forest products import bill is about Kshs.10 Billion. This is the market that is available for locals to take advantage of.
Kenya Tree Farms has committed to mobilize Kenyans both locally and in the Diaspora to the immense wealth that is to be found in growing these trees and in selling the forest products to meet the local demand.
Kenya Tree Farms phase one project is to plant at least 20,000 acres of bamboo.
We have selected the bamboo product because of its quick growth potential.
Bamboo will mature in four years, and the harvests will continue annually for 35 to 40 years.
Bamboo also has a positive effect on the climate of the areas where it is grown in large scale, and the soil also benefits from the added nutrients from the bamboo plant.
Bamboo growing is highly labor intensive, which means that the communities around the plantations will benefit from the available employment opportunities and the trickle-down effects of the opportunity.
All the seedlings will be procured locally, and Kenya Tree Farms will hire a professionally trained workforce to plant, grow and maintain the bamboo plantations.
The bamboo plantations will be in Narok county.
We have selected Narok county because of the available large acreage of good arable land. The acreage that will be under bamboo cultivation will be leased lands, and Narok county has a long history of stable land lease programs.
